No More Sweating!

Wow, I didn't realize how long it's been since I posted to the blog. I started the Stop Sweating and Start Living stuff a few months back and I'd have to say that it did exactly what it said it would do.

I can't remember the last time I worried about sweating, and although I still sweat when hot, the excessive sweating has really stopped. This was a very easy program to follow, and it didn't require any trips to the doctor or expensive prescriptions (I wish I'd tried it earlier and saved some money). For me, it worked almost exactly as described.

Last month I recommended this to a friend with sweating problems (we've shared notes over the years), and she's having similar results.

If you feel like you're beating your head against the wall looking for a way to stop sweating, go read the article that started the cure for me. I can't say for sure that it will work for you, but if it does, you're done sweating for good!

So far so good

One week in and I'm seeing some pretty good results. The sweating is almost gone entirely, and it was very easy. I'll be honest: it really sounded to good to be true, but it seems to have worked as promised.

I'll continue for the remainder of the two weeks and post an update then. Either it will work and I'll keep the product or I'll return it for a refund. Maybe the sweating is really gone for good as advertised.

Two Week Trial

Ok, since the How to Stop Sweating and Start Living book has a liberal refund policy, I'm going to give it a try for two weeks and see how well (or even if) it works.

Trying something else

I just found this article called How to Stop Sweating and I'm going to try what worked for the author. Reading her article brought back some not-so-pleasant memories of what I went through in school. She tried something called How to Stop Sweating and Start Living and had great results. I'm skeptical but willing to try almost anything.

It seems like I came across this when I was doing some research earlier, but dismissed it at that time. Since I've spent so much already, and this isn't very expensive, I'm going to give it a go.

An ugly rash!

No luck with the Drysol either. It caused a rash when I put a small amount on my forearm. I don't know if I'm allergic to the aluminum or something else in the concoction, but if it keeps causing rashes, it isn't going to stop the sweating.

I don't know if I should go back to the doctor to try something else or just keep looking.

Hyperhidrosis

After trying every over-the-counter solution I could find, I finally decided that it was time to see a doctor. My appointment was last week, and although I have some comfort in knowing what my problem is, I don't feel much closer to a solution.

The doctor told me that I have Hyperhidrosis. From Wikipedia:
Hyperhidrosis (or hyperhydrosis as it's sometimes spelled) is the condition characterized by abnormally increased perspiration, in excess of that required for regulation of body temperature. Primary hyperhidrosis is estimated at around 1% of the population, afflicting men and women equally. That number, however, does not reflect the true number of cases since the condition is not always diagnosed; most patients usually disregard the excessive sweating and it never occurs to them that they might have a medical condition. It commonly has its onset in adolescence.

She prescribed Drysol which is another aluminum chloride solution. I didn't know it at the time, but it's the same active ingredient that caused the rash I had last month. I'm going to try this on a small spot on my arm before I try it under my arms. Maybe there was another cause behind the previous rash.

I'm getting medical help

I finally broke down and set up an appointment with a dermatologist. The appointment isn't until August, but if I've lived with the excessive sweating this long, what's a few more weeks.

No luck!

Certain Dry isn't going to work for me at all. I gave it a try as directed and put some on before I went to bed. In the middle if the night I woke up with burning under my arms and got up and washed it off as best as I could. The next morning, I woke up to a painful rash under both arms.

The good news is that the rash went away by the next day, but it's back to the drawing board. I guess it's time to get some serious help if I'm going to beat this sweat problem.

You need a prescription for Drysol

Good news and bad news. As the title says, I couldn't buy Drysol without a prescription. Its active ingredient is a 20% Aluminum Chloride solution.

The good news is that I found another product that has the same solution in a smaller concentration called "Certain Dry." It's supposed to stop sweating as well. I bought some and I'll give it a try.

Sweating help from the Internet

Ok, I did a little digging on the Internet. It seems that there more people than I thought with a sweating problem. One of the common suggestions was a product called "Drysol." It's supposed to help you stop sweating.

I'm going to call around and see if I can find some.

It's time to stop sweating!

I have been suffering from excessive sweating my entire adult life, and I've decided that it's now time to stop sweating for good!

Back when the sweating started, I was a teenager, and the extra sweat was so embarrassing! I tried everything to hide it. No antiperspirant would stop it, so I tried some pretty crazy things:
  • I wore a jacket year-round; since I lived in Florida, this was miserable for most of the year.
  • I tried stuffing napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, and even sanitary pads under my arms.
  • I went almost six months with washcloths stuffed under my arms.
  • I tried every over-the-counter solution I could find (nothing worked)
  • I even tried some type of herbal solution that was supposed to tighten the pores (it didn't work).
  • I gave up!
So what have I been doing since then? I've been wearing one or more undershirts year round. Does it work? Obviously not or I wouldn't be writing this blog! Most days I have to change an undershirt at lunch, so it's quite a pain. Likewise, sometimes I can feel the dripping when I'm giving a presentation at work; I absolutely hate it!

I'm going to try to figure out if there's a solution to my problem, and share the journey with you, then Internet reader. Maybe there are others out there with the same problem and we can find a solution together. Let's just stop sweating!
